POST PROCEDURE SPERM COUNT ©1999 Kevin B. Clever DC All the literature suggests that you wait until 20 ejaculations to flush the sperm from your system. I thought it would be interesting to track the decline of the sperm count, both pre and post vasectomy. I am using the California Cryobank Laboratory for all lab results. Remember that you're not sterile until your sperm count is zero for 30 days. Tips on temporary birth control by Clicking Here. Pre Vasectomy Sperm Count
My average total sperm count, pre vasectomy was 367,500,000 per ejaculation (for the guys in Rio Linda, California that's three hundred sixty seven million five hundred thousand sperm). Last tested May 13, 1999 Vasectomy performed June 11, 1999 Tips & techniques for collection of semen are available here.
(a note regarding the graph: the final data point of zero cannot be plotted on a logarithmic scale: I had to fudge and make the final measurement a one. Thanks to R. Noyola B.S.E., M.E.E for this contribution)
Post Vasectomy Sperm Count Test 1 - Sixth Day After Vasectomy 6th day following vasectomy, a specimen was collected and an analysis performed. June 17, 1999 number of ejaculations since vasectomy (including collection of specimen) = 4 days of abstinence (how long from last sex to collection) = 3 total sperm count = 4,200,000 (four million two hundred thousand) I was amazed at this DRAMATIC decrease in sperm. I knew the sperm count would drop, however a decrease of 99.9%, was not expected. Test 2 - Twelve Days After Vasectomy 12th day following vasectomy, an specimen was collected and analysis performed. June 23, 1999 number of ejaculations since vasectomy (including collection of specimen) = 8 days of abstinence (how long from last sex to collection) = 2 total sperm count = 200,000 (two hundred thousand) Another dramatic decline. At this rate I'm going to be sterile, and soon. Test 3 - Nineteen Days After Vasectomy 19th day following vasectomy, a specimen was collected and an analysis performed. June 30, 1999 number of ejaculations since vasectomy (including collection of specimen) = 11 days of abstinence (how long from last sex to collection) = 3 total sperm count = ZERO * lab report states that there was a rare non-motile sperm seen after centrifugation. Total sperm count listed as zero. Final test has been scheduled for July 7, 1999. Test 4 - Scheduled for July 7, 1999 26th day following vasectomy, a specimen was collected and an analysis performed. July 7, 1999. number of ejaculations since vasectomy (including collection of specimen) = 15 days of abstinence (how long from last sex until collection) = 2 total sperm count = zero Well, that's it, I'm shooting blanks. It would seem evident that I was shooting blanks somewhere between 9 and 11 ejaculations. To average the outcome, lets say it was the 10th time. Your result may vary. Remember, you're not sterile, until your doctor says you are. The information presented is not designed or intended as medical advice.
