PLAIN LANGUAGE FAQ WHY WOULD I WANT A NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY? You're absolutely sure you don't want to father any more children. You've knocked up half the neighborhood, and the county District Attorney, has garnished your paycheck, once again. Because the tubes that are cut are easily reached, the procedure is usually done in the doctors office. * No incision * No stitches * Faster Procedure * Faster Recovery * Less chance of complications * Less discomfort * Low cost * Quick WHY YOU WOULD NOT WANT A VASECTOMY * You're too young * Your relationship is unstable * You're being pressured by your partner * You're under a lot of stress * You're counting on being able to reverse the procedure later * You have an underlying desire to repopulate the western world after nuclear war POOR EXCUSES FOR NOT WANTING TO BE VASECTOMIZED * You're embarrassed * You're hung like a mouse * The procedure might hurt (ask your wife about pain and bearing children) Also known as "No Balls Syndrome". HOW DOES VASECTOMY WORK? Check it out at Male Plumbing IS STORAGE OF SPERM AN OPTION PRIOR TO VASECTOMY? Storage of sperm is certainly an option prior to vasectomy. Check it out here Vasectomy Semen Storage for beginners, including collection tips & techniques. WHAT IS THE "OPEN ENDED TECHNIQUE"? and WHY IS IT SUPERIOR? An excellent article written by Ken Reda detailing this procedure may be found at the following web site by clicking here. WILL THE VASECTOMY PROCEDURE HURT? From personal experience, it does not hurt. The injections of Lidocaine into the surface of the scrotal skin and then into the Vas Deferens may cause momentary discomfort, however the needle is very thin, (27 ga) and I could hardly feel it. During the procedure, I could only feel tugging and pulling sensations. (although not normal, I did sit up and watch the whole procedure, and saw everything coming....or going, as it were) HOW LONG WILL THE VASECTOMY PROCEDURE TAKE? It's like this - figure 15mins in the front office waiting room, another 15 mins waiting in the Procedure room for the doctor to arrive, and about another 30 mins for the procedure, for a total of about one hour. I see all over the Internet, it takes 10 mins.....yeah sure....(just a thought, do you really want somebody powering their way through your balls in ten mins?) MY FRIEND SAYS MY BALLS WILL BE CUT OFF IN A VASECTOMY? Tell your moronic friend to "get a life". A Vasectomy involves snipping two little tubes through which the sperm travel, not castration, which is removal of your testicles. MY OTHER FRIEND SAYS YOU GET SHOTS RIGHT IN THE BALLS! Get new friends... You don't get injections in the testicles, only on the surface of the scrotum, and then into the Vas Deferens, anything else is urban legend. MY FRIEND, THE KNOW IT ALL, SAYS THAT AFTER VASECTOMY, YOU HAVE DRY ORGASMS. Sperm makes up about 5% of the total ejaculate and as such, you still shoot semen, just minus the sperm. WHY ARE ALL MY FRIENDS SO MORONIC? Where are some questions that even I can't answer. IS VASECTOMY SAFE? Vasectomy generally is safe and simple. Vasectomy is an operation, and like all things in life, this operation has some risks, the risks here are: bleeding, bruising and infection. My personal experience of the operation was - no bleeding, no infection and only very minute bruises the size of a nickel on the upper left and right sides of my scrotum. The bruises didn't show up until five days later, and went away about the 10th day, post procedure. The 1/16" entrance hole healed over in five days. Your experience may be different. WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK AFTER BEING VASECTOMIZED? Vasectomies are usually scheduled the afternoon before your days off. Most men require two days of recovery time. In my experience, I had the procedure on a Friday at 4:00pm, and was home at 5:30pm. My Scrotum did not swell, I didn't have any bruising show up until 5 days later (it may have been from having sex? No, from further research, I read that, bruising usually doesn't show up until the 5th day, and is normal to the healing process). Immediately after the procedure my Vas Deferens (the tubes that were cut) were sore at the excision sites inside my scrotum. Friday night it felt like I had been kicked lightly in the balls. No pain on Saturday or Sunday, and I was ready for work on Monday morning, no problem. Do wear tight fitting jockey type briefs, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, as long as I had the (tight fitting) jockey briefs on, I didn't even know I was clipped. WILL VASECTOMY CHANGE ME SEXUALLY? If you were a big shooter before, you will still be after. (if you're not a big shooter, that won't change either) The only difference is, after the sperm is flushed out of your system, you're shooting blanks and you won't be getting anyone pregnant. Everything else stays the same. WILL I BE STERILE RIGHT AWAY? NO. REPEAT NO. You have to have sex and or masturbate approximately 20 times before all the sperm is flushed out of your system. Use birth control until your doctor says you're sterile. (for tips on temporary birth control Click Here) I am conducting my own research regarding the rate of complete sterilization after vasectomy, as reported in Post Procedure Vasectomy Sperm Count. WHEN CAN I START HAVING SEX AGAIN? As soon as you're comfortable. I wanted sex that first night after the procedure, however I was told "I DON'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DEATH", yeah sure, it was just a plot to keep me from getting some. I finally prevailed on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon (2 days after Vasectomy) and everything worked fine. WILL VASECTOMY PROTECT ME FROM AIDS? NO. NO. AND NO. You're shooting blanks, but you're still shooting. DOES VASECTOMY CAUSE ANY MEDICAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS HEART DISEASE OR CANCER? NO. Every major medical organization, anywhere (even in Russia), has concluded that Vasectomy is safe. Anything you hear otherwise is generally, URBAN LEGEND. WILL VASECTOMY PREVENT ME FROM COMPETING IN SPORTS? Men are stronger than women because of the male hormone testosterone. Vasectomies do not effect or interrupt the production of any hormones, so the procedure will not interfere with your ability to compete in sports. (which includes bedroom sports) For an excellent essay regarding bedroom sports, click here CAN A VASECTOMY BE REVERSED? Well let's see..... you're going to remove a 1" piece of each vas deferen, then tie and cauterize at least one end of each..... and now you want to reverse it? Anything is possible, and Doctors do it, (the medical term is Vasovasostomy) but they have you, "BY YOUR BALLS", so figure that it's going to cost you at least $4000.00, (US$$) all the way up to $15,000.00, the procedure is not covered by insurance, and then of course there are no guarantees. For peace of mind, I visited my friendly sperm bank, and deposited 11 vials of sperm, for deep freezing, just in case I wanted 11 more kids...... HOW MUCH DOES VASECTOMY COST? I used my Blue Shield health plan, they claimed $75.00 (US$$). First required referral copay was $10.00 then preprocedure counseling (required) was $10.00 then the procedure copay was $75.00. Total was $95.00 (US$$) Cost will vary, check your health plan. Private doctors charge between $250 - $550 (US$$) this should include the pre procedure consultation, the procedure itself and the required sperm count analysis, to verify your sterility. WHERE DO YOU FIND A DOCTOR WHO DOES NO-SCALPEL VASECTOMY? Check with your family doctor, family planning clinic, county health service, or your health plan. WHAT ARE THE PRE AND POST VASECTOMY INSTRUCTIONS? Check out the instruction page Here. CAN MY WIFE WATCH AND OR TAKE PICTURES? Sure why not, it's your party. If your doctor objects or is that paranoid, dump him / her, and find one who will allow it. This information provides a general overview on vasectomy and may not apply in each individual case. Always consult with your physician to determine whether this information can be applied to your personal situation and to obtain additional information. MY WIFE WANTS ME TO CONSIDER CASTRATION Don't always listen to your wife (most wives want to castrate their husbands at least once during their marriage). However, castration (the medical term is Bilateral Orchiectomy) is an effective alternative birth control method, produces a Zen like calmness over your life and it's been reported that castrated men generally live on average, 14 years longer than men who are not. Orchiectomy is not emasculation, you retain full use of your penis, the scrotum is still present, and with the subcapsular method, you look and feel completely male. In the United States, about 150,000 men from all walks of life undergo this procedure every year. This is also a popular modification among serious body builders, in conjunction with steroid therapy, for the purpose of body sculpting. Religious couples who have finished raising their children and who seek a more spiritual encounter, often choose this method. Men with a very high libido (excessive or abusive masturbation, roaming for sexual contact) are candidates for this procedure. Contact Doctor Felix Spector doctorf@concentric.net , the cost is $1,600.00 (US$$) The procedure is performed in office, using local anesthesia, is not painful and usually takes less than 90 minutes. No referral is required. The first advantage of Orchiectomy is that its a simple surgical procedure with very low risk of complications, and is 100% effective. Second, with subcapsular Orchiectomy, the cores of the two testes are removed, while the capsules remain in the scrotum, leaving the appearance of being fully intact. Orchiectomy has one disadvantage in that the procedure is not reversible. Procedure slides are available by Clicking Here.
